It’s deep winter now, when it is sometimes best to rest in the words of others. William Carlos Williams (1893-1963) is said to have been a leading poet of the Imagist movement. I don’t need to study up on that to love this poem.
Winter Trees
All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.
